30/10 Info and Tips!

SO…I did my research before signing up for 30/10 but it took a lot of time and effort on my part. Yes their website gives you all the basics but I am not a “basics” person. I needed detailed information about the program specifics and that is hard to come by. I spent a lot of time in their office asking questions and gathering information and seeking out people who had done the program to get their feedback. I DID THE WORK before pulling the trigger! So here are some tidbits from my research and feedback from people who have participated in the program! If you TOO have been through 30/10 and have something to add please share it here so I can add in your wisdom to the collective!

These are things that I have ALREADY experienced. Livin the dream man…livin the dream!

Call and MAKE AN APPOINTMENT!

  • They are ALWAYS busy because their clients are coming in daily for their weekly check in. Coaches and staff are busy greeting and filling food orders and answering phones and COACHING…if you stop in without an appointment they might not have time for you and thats kind of a good thing. They invest in the people who have invested in them. Weird…I know. But they are saving their time for ME and maybe YOU one day! Call ahead and schedule a consultation. This will cost you $25 IF you say a friend referred you! I am now your friend…April Williams 🙂 HI…hello…how bout those Mariners? But WHY are you paying THEM to learn about their program? Read on…

It’s going to seem a bit shady at first! But it is LEGIT!

  • The first day I stopped in to begin my fact finding mission they were SWAMPED and down a few people. They were running around taking care of a million fires and I show up with out an appointment wanted the 411. The manager had a cancelation and was able to do my 1st consultation- normally $160 bucks. But all you have to do is say ________ did it and I want to know more. If you live here in Washington just say Shelly Hart sent you or now April Williams and its only $25! YES it seems kinda weird…you are giving THEM money to tell you about their program. But they give you a body composition scan- the exact same scanner they use at Policlinic here in Seattle and many other medical offices globally- and it tells you ALL kinds of wonderful things like how fat you are and how much viceral fat you have and how dense your bones and muscles are. Then they spend the next 30-60 minutes reviewing the scan with you and talking about the program. It’s not a detailed discussion but if I had been armed with questions I would have gotten more out of it. Basically I walked away with more questions than answers, a VERY clear picture of my fat and where is is on my body and a fear that the program would be too restrictive and it was not for me. What was so WEIRD about this meeting was that the woman who did my consultation- Shannon- knew how scared I was about giving up ALL my favorite foods and told me that I was not yet ready for this program. EXCUSE ME? Only I can tell you that I am NOT ready!! But she made it really clear….you have to be REALLY ready to do this because it is challenging and it costs BIG BUCKS and they want to keep their track record and the only way they can do that is to be picky about who they help. They do NOT want you to do the program if you are not 100% on board. It’s why they have such a high success rate…they are selective in who gets to do the program. Backwards…I know. But another reason why this program is different from the rest. You really leave there kinda in a fog…what just happened? Did she really tell me she didn’t want my money? What kind of sham is this?

You can call them ANYTIME and get your questions answered before you commit.

  • You can ask them ANYTHING…if they have done the program themselves…why the high cost…what the food REALLY taste like…how do you travel on the plan…what happens if I eat all my food in one day…I called THREE times and talked to someone for an HOUR each time. I knew they were busy…I could hear all the commotion in the back ground. But they took the time. And they really call you out on your shit. One of my concerns was my upcoming vacation to Alaska. We will be on a private boat for 2 weeks and I didn’t know it I could do it mentally or if the food would travel. The woman I spoke to ask me “Are you going to Alaska to eat? Or are you going to be with your family and see some amazing things?” Uummmmmm….silence on my end. She had to ask if I was still on the line. THAT was when I knew this program was for me. They have two goals: release weight fast and figure out why food is more important than vacation. Reason #2 they are different that other programs.

It’s expensive. But not as expensive as LapBand or Diabetes or a Heart Attack…or your daily Starbucks…BUT YOU ARE WORTH IT.

  • My dad ALWAYS tells my sister and I “I can buy a new car or build a new house…I can’t build another you.” While I am SURE he would love to try…he makes his point. All that really matters in life is your family and if you lost that you would also die with that person. SO…you do what you can and you fork over any amount of money to ensure your family is present and healthy for the long haul. (I also think he thinks I will be taking care of him in his old age…he has some mess up motives.) You can’t replace you…you are PRICELESS and that is WORTH the cost of 30/10. I still SHIT A BRICK when they told me my first 15 weeks would be $3,655. I looked at them with crazy eyes…I think I even took in a breath. All you can think is “I am going to pay 3 GRAND for some so-so food, weekly weigh in’s, and 30-60 minutes with a dedicated coach every week? Do I LOOK like a sucker? Oh SMT is included? What the hell is that?”                                                                   um no
  • But then Shannon really walked me through what I am currently spending on food every month- and by food that is anything you put in your mouth for nourishment. I spend $25 a week for organic produce deliver to our house. I pay $25 a week to Smith Brothers for dairy delivery. I spend another $300 just on groceries. If we entertain that month I spend $100-200 on that and we entertain A LOT.  We eat out once a week maybe and thats $40-60 a pop…I am addicted to Starbucks and sometimes on a really long day I am there twice…so I am averaging $7 a day. I was a WW member…$45 a month. How much are you spending every month on co-pays? (NOT food related but weight related and that was caused by food). Mine are $30 a pop then add in what was NOT covered by insurance and really adds up. How about random gum and crap when you stop for groceries or gas? Or late night DQ runs? Even if it is once a month that all adds up. So after some quick mental math I was already spending something close to that every month…just on FOOD or food related things. OK Shannon…point taken.
  • Some reviews online complained that they were not upfront with their costs. Well they cant be because everyone needs different amounts of food and vitamins. My costs are so high right now because I need more calories to lose weight without crashing….and I have 100 POUNDS TO LOSE! My costs will GO DOWN as I release some weight. I know people who paid half what I did…but they had half of the weight to lose and did it for only 10 weeks total. I need 37 WEEKS to release my weight…the weeks that you do this program vary with your goals and body composition. The program really is tailored to YOU and your needs. I am Celiac and I can participate 100% in this program. If I can do it…you can do it.

Say goodbye to carbs, sugars, fruit, and everything else that makes your mouth water.

  • Kind of hard to imagine…but it is also hard to imagine yourself dead from a food overdose. You will get to a place where all foods are “on-plan” again. You are talking about going weeks without…not years or your lifetime without. This is not a program where you can never eat certain foods again or count points for the rest of your life. You are choosing to remove these foods from your diet for a SHORT amount of time. You CAN do this…ITS JUST FOOD!  (I have to tell myself this every 30 seconds.) Your coaches and the program will help you through the rough spots and make you think about why you want those foods so bad! Is one mocha going to make you fat? NO! Will be you able to enjoy this same mocha soon? YES! Is it healthy to get a mocha every day? NO…but you still did it…every day and now your pants don’t fit. THATS what 30/10 is really all about. Figuring out why you are making the food choices and helping you rewire those choices to he healthy and sustainable.

The coaches help you find work arounds.

  • I really lost my shit at the though of giving up my Starbucks…I was honest with my coach about that and he could see the fear in my eyes. He said…”OK! Lets problem solve!” And guess what…we found an alternative…you CAN have coffee on this plan…you can have a little milk and a calorie free chocolate syrup! Mix those all up in your Vitamix with some ice and water and you have yourself an Aprilchinno! See what I did there? It is NOT a Frap from Starbucks but it WILL get me through the tough days and it WILL remind me that I am not depriving myself of anything. CRISIS AVERTED!  189152125_ObamaHellNo_answer_3_xlarge

Because this is a MEDICAL program- a large portion of your costs are TAX DEDUCTIBLE!

  • For every 15 weeks of the program I complete, I get to deduct $2550 from my taxes. You can deduct the cost minus the food. I am looking at a $8000 WRITE OFF at the end of this adventure. You don’t even get that much for kids or organ donation…THAT helps the hurt of the upfront costs in the long run. Think of it as a REWARD you will are giving yourself come May when your return finally comes! That should cover the cost of your new wardrobe…and that super sweet purse you have been eyeing…and that plane ticket to Hawaii….and FINE that donation to my University…

You don’t have to think a lot about food.

  • You will be eating their breakfasts, lunches, and snacks. Dinner and your fresh veggies and salads are on you. There are some AWESOME condiment options for your dressing and marinades and a TON of meats, fish, and poultry are on the safe list! This is another reason this program is different…as you are releasing your weight you are also learning to cook for yourself in a healthy and sustainable way. You get to problem solve and experiment and bounce ideas off of your coaches and friends. And there is NO WAY you could mess up your day…everything from 30/10 is LABLED and there is a daily flow chart of what you will be eating throughout the day…its really idiot proof. They even have an EMERGENCY kit of chocolate things to save you from that Milky Way! Now that I have said that I am totally going to mess it up! My bad…anywhoos…But again- that is really hard to do if you are thinking and breathing….all you have to do is look a your one page of “Allowed” foods…if it ain’t on the list it ain’t going in your mouth! And its not like you have to eat breakfast at breakfast…you could do breakfast for dinner or soup for breakfast…there are a lot of ways to spice it up and there is a TON of 30/10 food food to choose from after your first week. Week 1 food is preset so there is really no thinking on your end…all you have to do is focus on getting through the transition! This will leave you feeling OK and almost relieved that this will NOT be as bad as your thought!

You will think about food ALL THE TIME.

  • You are going to be thinking about food ALL THE FREAKING TIME. Every second of your first week will be like you have all of the delicious food that has made you fat swirling around your head like the moons of Jupiter. You will want everything you have ever eaten and everything you plan to eat in the future. You will be obsessed with what you “cannot have” and will contemplate giving up a finger for something decent to eat! That first week or two and even three are brutal. You think about food all the time. There is just no way around it…and the ONLY reason you are thinking about it SO MUCH is because your brain is telling you that you cannot have it. And you know what happens when someone tells you that you cannot do something…But here is the trick. You CAN eat those off-plan foods. No one is stopping your. They are probably still in your home. But you have just paid a crap-ton of money for this…you are CHOOSING to NOT eat those foods NOW…for a short time. You have the power here…this is YOUR choice and it is one of the best decisions you have ever made. GOLD STAR for you today!

Clean out your home of off-plan foods.

  • I did this and it saved my ass in the first few weeks. It is still saving me and I am 10 weeks in! I threw out/gave away every off-plan item in my home. I boxed it all up and got it out of there. I knew it would be tempting to have around and I did not want to throw off my first few weeks with a stupid indulgence or treat. If I allowed it my brain would tell me I had “earned” a treat because I did a few days 100% on plan. I did NOT want to play that game…it was what got me here in the first place!!! My advice…CLEAN OUT YOUR HOME/CAR/WORK/GYM BAG/ SECERT STASH of all that good stuff. You will thank yourself later…at 2am…when you are about to break.

The food is nutritious…it’s not Wendy’s.

  • Will you be hungry? Yes. Will you want something REALLY bad? Yes. Is the food giving you ALL the energy and nutrients and minerals that your body needs to function at PEAK form? YES. You are hungry because you are addicted to eating or the taste or the action or the smell. But you are NOT starving and you body has what it needs to be a well oiled machine. And they have lots of __________…it’s just a nutritious version of it! Your hunger is really just in your head…I recommend therapy for those stupid hunger issues. And you already know there is not a food in the WORLD that can satisfy your cravings or hunger. Your mind needs healing and there ARE people out there to help you. Your coaches get you though a lot. But if you are like me…I needed someone with DECADES of experience in addiction to truly crack my hunger. My coaches got me though day to day and week to week and month to month but my therapist gave me the tools to get through life. And WHO KNEW my ex boyfriend was such an ASS! 😉

These are things that others who have completed the program have TOLD ME. Everyone who I know personally and has been through the program has been successful in releasing their weight FAST and keeping it off some some time. They are NOT worried about gaining it back because they have really changed their relationships with food. These are the dreams I WILL be livin soon…

There are 3 phases to 30/10.

  • Officially I think there are only 2…but in my world there are three.
    • Phase 1: HOLY SHIT. You have paid your money and you have your food. You are driving away and you think…I can’t do this. This is nuts. But then you remember you just handed over BIG $$$ and there are NO refunds! -Not true but once you walk out with your food you they are keeping $650 bucks for all that food and the work they put into you to get you to sign up. And if you get preggers your program is held until you have pushed him or her out and are done nursing. Then you pick up where you left off. You go home…find a binder and organize the shit out of all of the materials that they have given you. You unpack your food and throw away or food bank ALL your food in your house. You have two days to BINGE of what ever you want because D-Day is coming and you want to get in that last ____________ before your week starts. But you already feel shitty because you have really been binging since your brain told you that you were doing this about a week ago…so yeah…You make it through Week 1 and it was not bad but it was not paradise…you have released some weight as promised but you are still wary that this is Oz and a little green man is going to pop up from around the corner pointing and laughing. You are committed to week 2 then shit gets REAL. People look like walking iced mochas…you dream of pizza and burgers…your head aches and you just want to punch walls. But you paid your $$$ and that would SUCK if you threw your week away and hard earned money. So you press through week 2.
    • Phase 2: Weight RELEASING! (CURRENT PHASE!) The fog and mood has passed and you have released some weight! Holy shit…its working and that little gym form Oz is no where to be seen! You are COMMITTED! Yes there will be some bad days and maybe you might cheat. But the guilt in your heart and the pain in your wallet gets you right back on track. Your coaches help you every step along the way. Those SMT recordings ARE working…new age Science is not just magic and gold dust! People start noticing…and you scream “30/10!”…people look at you weird but say they have heard about it…they tell you that they have been thinking about checking it out. You tell them to check out this AWESOME blog then FB you with any questions! Or you just answer their questions right there…You are in CONTROL and your clothes are lose. You might even hit up the Nordstroms Anniversary sale for something new just because your pants wont stay on anymore!
    • Phase 3: Maintenance. YOU DID IT! You RELEASED what you wanted to, you understand yourself better, you are in control of your hanger, and you feel GREAT! Now you get to work with your coach to fend for yourself in this big bad food world. You still weight in weekly if you choose…but you are cooking for you now and you still have your coach and 30/10 to help you make this transition! Your support does NOT go away and you are motivated to NOT go back to your old ways. You realize that you have really changed your attitudes towards food for your lifetime and it feels good to not be so obsessed with food.

The goal is INDEPENDENCE!

  • They REALLY don’t want you eating their food for the rest of your life. And they really don’t want to see you every week for the next 60 years. I LOVE my Weight Watcher leader…but I want to see him socially, not clinically. Their SINGULAR goal is for you to be independent. They want you to change your habits and shift your perceptions, and understand nutrition, and get your head straight so food is no longer an issue of yours. Can’t guarantee you wont pick something else to fill the void that food has left- ummmhmmm…therapy-but MAN that’s a GREAT goal. Independence…true freedom to enjoy food as it should be enjoyed and in a way that will not kill you. What a gift.

See…I TOLD you. It is worth every penny.

  1. Thank you so much for taking the time and effort to understanding 3010. You answered my questions about most everything. Except the SMT. Still weird to me. Good luck on your journey! D K

      1. I have a couple questions that might sound odd- I have done the Mediterranean diet with what sounds like the same results, what is different in this? SMT new age or just good thought patterns? the vibration machine, is this part of the plan? I eat extremely healthy now, but like many it seems, not enough, that’s why the ‘south beach’ seems to work so well, but do they help those of us who have the dreaded PCOS? if its only 3 # a week, not sure its worth it, do you plateau with this? that seems to be the most aggravating part of ‘normal’ diets.
Thanks for your thoughts and this blog. very interesting!

        1. I don’t know anything really about the Mediterranean diet or other ones so I have nothing to compare 30/10 to. SMT is almost like a guided meditation and yes it’s all about changing your though patterns around food. The vibrating machine is something you can use if you want but it’s not required 😉 I don’t know what PCOS is and I did not experience a plateau when I was following it faithfully!

    1. Hi Tina! I so hope you do it. If you are ready to get to the reason for the extra weight and be done with it for life 30/10 is THE program. It’s HARD but worth every pain. I encourage you to make an appointment and talk with someone there….get your numbers and share your fears with them. It will help you make your decision.

  3. As a 60+ year old male who has had a weight problem all his life, I had finally reached my limit; high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol, out of shape, no energy, you get the idea. It wasn’t low “T” my friend, it was just plain being fat. I got into the plan a week ago. After one week, down 10 lbs. Scary. I didn’t feel it, and I was never hungry. I don’t expect these kinds of results in the coming weeks, after all, it took me practically a lifetime to get to where I was.

Yeah, it’s expensive, but I think I would prefer feeling better.

    1. Great Jon Alan! Those are wonderful results! If you stay true to the program you will continue to see results. Have you listened to any of the tapes yet? They really do help.

  4. Thank you April!. I googled and came upon this post. I went in yesterday and signed up. I was not caught off guard as much because I read about your experience. I’m ready to feel better again and get out of this current unhealthy lifestyle for good. Thanks again!

    1. Congratulations Grace! You will not regret this! It’s going to be hard…really hard. But seeing the results and knowing that you are never going back is worth it all!

  5. Found your blog through a search. I will probably start maintenance after my next weigh-in. Biggest problem with the program is the cost. I only had 30lbs to lose and will hit that mark after 10 weeks on the program. After a few weeks I had tried everything and had narrowed the food down to a few favorites that I ordered every week from then on. Everyone will like different things. All of the bars are good. Actually they are amazing and if I could just live off those I would. But they only let you have one a day. I ate Cocoa and Cinnamon cereal for breakfast every day, the bars for my morning snacks, the lemonade or cran-grape drinks for afternoon snacks, and the chicken or beef noodle soup for lunch. I always added my veggies to the soups and often added spices or curry. I didn’t like the soups by themselves. They definitely needed a little help. They had me add 2 extra protein drinks each day because I started losing muscle. I didn’t workout much but am very active with my work and would often get weak and dizzy. I lost 3.4 lbs per week. 7 lbs the first week. Maintenance will be interesting. Kind of nervous to start that, but I think I can do it.

    1. You can totally do it! When I was “paused” I maintained my new weight. I think after you have done it you just dont want to go back. Stick to clean eating and you will be good to go! You can buy 14 of their products a month (you can also buy them online for about the same price) and of course you can meet with them every week once on maintenance to stay accountable and get their support! No worries Maria!

    2. Remember too that the program minus the cost of food IS tax deductible! That will help off set some of the costs 🙂

      1. $3600 for 15 weeks. It’s what we would have spend in 5 months anyways o. Good and booze and going out and co-pays. Since I have joined 30/10 I have not gone to the doctors ONCE.

    3. Maria, I would like to talk to you more. I only need to lose 30 lbs as well. Your story sounds similar to mine. How much did you pay for the 10 weeks. Was your first phase, or first weeks as difficult as April’s? What more can you tell me about your experience?

Great blog and it helped me decide not to do it and I will try to find a less expensive route. Good luck to you on your journey and congrats to making the commitment

    1. Its tax deductible, with a lot of limitations. If you don’t itemize, no deduction. Even if you do itemize, you are limited to claiming only the amount over 10% of your income. So be careful saying blanket statements about tax write offs. Pretty hard to get a deduction.

      Like

      1. All that is true. We itemize and was able to include the $7000 coats from my program and my husbands. With out other medical expenses we were way over that 10% threshold. So yes it does have limitations. You can always call a tax professional to see how it could or would fit in your medical deductions if you itemize. It IS a medical expense.

        1. I think April was just trying to offer a break in future sight, not offer legal advice for filing taxes. Those types of questions and decisions should always be directed toward a licensed tax professional. I appreciated April at least sparking the thought to look into deducting my cost of 3010 otherwise I never would’ve even considered looking into it. Thank for that, April 🙂

  7. Hi, I’m just through week 2…and this week was harder than the 1st week… I LOVED this and it was so helpful…yes it is expensive. I signed up for 12 weeks, and am thinking of extending. I too need to loose 80-100 lbs… The hardest part for me is giving up wine…and going out to eat…which is very social for me….I am looking forward to the rest of my journey, and will keep an eye on your blog. Thanks again.

  8. Hello April,

Thank you so much for posting this! I stopped by 30/10 in Everett today and have an appointment for my consultation on Friday. I am a bit nervous about the cost though. I absolutely agree that my health is priceless, for me it is just coming up with the extra cost. I will still need to shop for my husband as he is not doing the program with me. I gave up Starbucks when the price of my drink went over $5! I use an instant coffee now and it’s almost as good. I am certain it won’t be on the approved food list though. 🙂
    Best wishes to you.

    1. Congrats Tammi on taking your first steps! Cost is a lot. When my husband was not doing the program he ate what I made for dinner and it was not a big deal. Maybe your hubby would be on board to share your dinners? Regular coffee is on the OK just not sugar or creamer 🙂 You will find your work around! Keep us all posted in your progress!

I am on Day 2 and am having issues with hunger. It’s not food cravings or feeling deprived, it’s hunger. I’m having major hunger pangs, headaches and my stomach feels like it’s eating itself. I’ve followed the plan faithfully so far and have been drinking TONS of water. Did you experience this the first week? I’m hoping the hunger subsides soon?

Thanks for the blog. It’s very helpful!

    1. OH YES. I had major hunger pains for about 2 weeks. It is a physical reaction to your new choices. It WILL pass. Try to think of those pains as little Army dudes eating away your fat! 30/10 provided ALL that you need nutritionally so don’t let your brain trick you to eat more food! Be sure you let them know your hunger at your first meeting and they will help you find ways to get around it 🙂

    1. I think you have to do half down then you can pay weekly after you reach your half way point? You would have to ask them directly. I paid for the whole thing up front and my husband paid half and half.

  10. Nice April… One of my co-workers did it and look good. Can you work out while on this? This was good, especially knowing the price, and tax deduction. I only wanna lose 50lbs.

    Like

    1. Yes you can! I would give in 2-3 weeks before jumping back into any heavy workouts but walking or light activities are fine from the get go. Your body needs some time to adjust to the program and I was really tired my first few weeks. Now I do hot yoga and a treadmill sometimes on the same day. Based on what I have learned working out has no impact on your weight. It keeps you fit and your muscles and bones healthy but the only impact you can make on your weight is in the kitchen. I have ALWAYS been active and have always gained weight. Can he your food…change your weight!

  11. Thank you April. Went today for my consultation. 12 weeks to hit their target. Few questions? What tapes are you referring too (SMT)? My consultant mentioned tapes from Patrick Porter however they can’t leave the studio. Are those what you refer to? How do they help?

    Like

    1. Woohooo Jim! Yes those are the tapes, Dr. Patrick Porter and yes they do stay there. I did some internet sleuthing and found that he has an app that you can pay for and download sessions to your phone! You can also buy an iPod directly from him that has all of the sessions already pre-loaded. I pay $30 a month to have access to them from my own phone. They are basically guided meditation recordings…everything from cravings to resetting your brain to think about hunger differently. I have found them helpful and my husband has too. You just relax and listen to them. We listen to one at night before bed…sometimes I will listen in the middle of the day if I am struggling. It is just another type of support along the way!

  12. We are on week two. My husband almost quit as he was really sick last week. I had some headaches the first few days. The biggest struggle for me is no evening snack except tea. They did tell us yesterday that we can eat some lettuce!
We are also walking 3x a week. We are both persevering. It is good that we can order our food separately as there are some foods one or the other doesn’t like.

  13. April,
I just started about 4 days ago and have found myself struggling and sometimes a lone wanderer in this “big bad food world”. Not to mention, I swear to GOD, this week the boss is taking us out for so-and-so’s birthday and those little Girl Scout shits stopping by for “help” selling their decadent little evils! I stumbled across your article and have saved it to come back to read for support. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU so much for writing this. It is so amazing to know I’m not alone in imagining my husband as a walking white chocolate mocha with caramel and whip cream topping or dreaming of snacking on a Hershey’s kiss and actually wake up sucking on the corner of my pillow. Again, thank you April and from one 3010-er to another, let’s do dis!!! We got it in the bag!! 😉

I think the universe tests us when we finally decide to make a change and it sounds like you are passing all the tests! It takes all your willpower and every trick in the book sometimes to stay on plan but your reward for all that hard work will come when you meet with your coach and you see the results. It becomes less of a struggle when your clothes are too big and people in your life see the changes in you. Noting tastes as good and healthy feels. Congrats on starting your journey and saying NO to those cute kids selling death pills covered in chocolate 🙂

  14. Where can we find an approved food drink list? Curious about coffee and wine/beer as well as various foods. Also after you complete the program and hopefully lost lots of weight what does the maintence program look like, this is often where people fail and fall back told patterns rather quickly and the weight follows. If the mental suggestion tapes are as powerful as you say it seems like those as a standalone would be very helpful for people. How can you check those out and purchase? Thanks

    1. Once you sign into to the program they will give you an approved foods list. Plain coffee is on plan but any alcohol is not. Maintenance is all about low carb…being aware of the carbs in your food choices and the impact it has on your weight is what it’s all about! I was able to maintain my new weight when I was paused and I followed their guidelines. And the SMT IS a powerful tool! I subscribe to the app and listen to them often. Google Dr. Patric Porter to learn about your options and how to download the app!

  15. Thank you so much for this article! My fiance and I just started 30/10. We’re on Day 3, and its nice to hear about others who have benefited from the program. Yelp is tough, because its mostly just grumpy people complaining… so finding someone (besides the client testimonials on the 30/10 site) who truly benefited from the experience and wants to share some real-life advice is very helpful for me. Just to warn you, I may be stumbling back to this comment section if I feel like I’m about to fall off the wagon. 🙂

  16. Hello April,

I want to thank you again for this blog. After doing my own research, reading your story last month helped me to make my final decision. At 53, my weight problem wasn’t so much what I was eating it was more about how little and when I was eating. Latte for breakfast, no lunch and then salad and meat for dinner. A snack usually around 8 PM because I was still hungry. My poor body was in starvation mode. I started 30/10 on February 27th. I am following this plan to the letter. The first couple of days it felt like all I was doing was eating and peeing!!! I had my first weigh-in yesterday, 3/2 and I am down 5.8lbs!!! This is amazing to me because I was sure I would have gained weight based on how much and how often I was eating! First I told them their machine was wrong! Then I cried because I have tried every diet known to women and nothing has ever worked like this. This is not hard and it is by no means a diet! It is a life style change and a change in attitude towards food. I am so excited to see what the coming weeks bring!

Please post and let us know how your journey is going!

    Thank you again

You are going to be happy with your new life 🙂 I will post soon…it has been up and down these past two weeks for me…time to reflect!

I had a late night salad wit olive oil , vinegar and a little sea salt which was a 3010 suggestion. First time . We are persevering and I have to remind myself to take one day at a time!
Thanks so much for the blog.

I honestly think that the money I paid is what kept me going the first couple of weeks! Now I am off and running with no plans to turn back! My life has forever been changed from this program and I am so excited to see where I finish, I have another 9 weeks to go and I already feel AMAZING! This program absolutely works!!

  20. Hey April! your blog is awesome and is way more informative than their website haha. I called and have my first consultation on Thursday:) I was wondering- do they send you home with the food right away on that day? Or do you have to schedule a second appointment to actually get started and get your food and such. I am hoping to get started before I have to leave for spring break. Thanks for your great post!

    1. Hi Jesse! I think you can leave that day with food…I ended up coming back for my start up session where they go over your plan and the food and how it all works. You might have to do the same. If you know 100% you are going to do it I might call them back and let me know that you want to start that day or at least take your food that day to start on a different day later that week?

It was amazing!!! The food was soy based which I’m not a huge fan of. Do you know how they process or what Protien base they use?

  23. Quick question ?? first off thank you for your blog !! You do not sugar coat it !! My main question is the cost they give you does that include your food you get from them? I work in a hospital 12 hour shifts there are days I don’t get to pee for long times. How hard is it to grab their food so to speak. Sorry I guess that was more then one question.

    Like

    1. Yes the cost is all your food minus dinner- that is all in you and your veggies and salad at lunch. The food is QUICK. Water and some heat if you are having soups. Prepack you other things and you are good to go!

      Like

    2. Yeah, and if you want to go SUPER easy, you can get these shaker bottles – basically a protein shake powder, already in a bottle, and you just add cold water. I was travelling for work last week, and those made it very very easy. Didn’t have to heat anything up, and they aren’t bad tasting. The only thing that really requires some planning is the 2 cups of veggies at lunch – which, for me, is usually just some sliced cucumber with vinegar, olive oil, and Tamari (sugar free soy sauce). The least amount of thought, planning, and time it takes to prep, the better for me. 🙂 2-1/2 weeks in, and about 8 lbs down!

  25. so I will chime in with everyone else thank you so much for the info. I have my consult next week and the questions just keep coming to me – the main thing is WINE I am a huge wine drinker and most of our friends and family as to. I read in a couple of posts that it is a NO NO. How strict are the rules on that is like a glass a night out of question or maybe a glass a week?

    Like

      1. So here is my PERSONAL experience. 30/10 is going to tell you NO. NO ALCOHOL PERIOD. When I was just thinking about signing up for 30/10 I told the person who was doing my consultation that I was really worried about eating and drinking over the summer and on our Alaska vacation. She just looked at me as said “Are you going to Alaska to eat and drink or are you going to spend time with your gamily and see some cool shit?” GUT CHECK. I wrote about this in some of my first blog posts. That was the moment I realized I had a REAL problem. For me, ONE glass of white one…ONE Gin and Tonic throws my whole week off. It kicks my body off and it takes me a few days to recovery. If any kind of alcohol is not something you can give up for the length of your program then I would not recommend that you sign up. I was a BIG social drinker before 30/10…all of my friends were apart of my social drinking circle. We drank almost every time we were together. I had to start asking myself “Why I am so afraid to stop drinking? Do I need to drink to have a good time? Do I need to drink to fir in with my friends?” What makes 30/10 so powerful is that you have to wrestle with these kids of questions all the time. Your issue is not with food…your issues is with how you use food in your life to cope. These are very hard questions to deal with and tackle. I had to have honest conversations with my friends and family about my choices and REAL conversations with myself about what I really wanted her an now. Did I want to lose weight and regain my health or was having a glass or two more important to me? With the MASSIVE support of my friends and family I was able to STOP drinking for the first 15 weeks of my program. As soon as I added it back in on occasions that we “celebrated” something my progress came to a screeching halt. Tomorrow we are going to a dinner and a hockey game with close friends. Normally I would have had some drinks at dinner and a few more at the game. Not going to happen. Drinking is not what will make tomorrow night fun- being with my friends and husband and doing something fun will make the evening. And my friends and husband will respect my decision and not ask if I want something or make a comment about my choice not to drink that night. If I was feeling really weak I could ask them to not drink with me as well and they would all support me. This is what I have asked of my support group and it has made this part of the program much easier for me. Could I have done it without their support? Sure…but I probably would chose not to spend time with them in a situation that makes it very difficult for me to say no. to get to my point…30/10 is about looking inside and understanding how and why you use food in a way that is not healthy or sustainable. It sucks. It’s really hard. You have to give up so much. But giving these things up is NOT for you lifetime. It is for a SHORT period of time…a drop in the bucked compared to your lifespan. For me it was worth it to give it up and get to the root cause of my dependence of booze ins ocial situations and I am SO thankful I have. It has deepened my friendships and made me even more thankful for the people who support me. The rewards and endless and lifelong. And when you are done wth your program you can drink all you want. Well…you know what I mean. If you can be honest with yourself and understand why it is so hard for you to CHOSE to not drink then sign up. If you are not ready for that then done. Seek out a program that will allow you to drink. I know Weight Watchers allows you to drink as long as you add up those points into your daily allotment! Sorry to be so soap boxey if that is how this is coming across. I really do understand your struggle…I am living it with you.

    1. Do some research on Ketosis – that’s basically what this program uses. You consume less carbs, and your body switches over to a state called ketosis, where you start burning fat for energy, instead of sugars. (I’m really over simplifying it, but that’s the basic idea). If you go above your daily limit of carbs (which I think is around 50 grams), your body will no longer be in ketosis, and no longer be burning fat, for approximately 3 or 4 days. When you think about how much money you’re spending on the program for each week, it’s not really worth it to lose half a week worth of fat burning, just for one glass of wine.

It is literally the most difficult part for me. I went from drinking 2-3 glassed of wine per night, to no wine at all. After the program though, they help you transition back to normal (smarter) eating, and coach you along the way. So you’re not saying goodbye to wine forever – just for the duration of the program. 🙂

      1. Thank you Chantal! That is EXACTLY what is happening on the program. For me a single slip up and I am out of ketosis and back to my body doing nothing with the fat is has. I had a rebellious period and I tried all kids of things…drinking, eating off plan, candy…and it just put the wright back on instantly. The sticker I follow the plan the fast the weight releases.

Time to at least have that consultation I think.

  27. This blog is super helpful! I started 30/10 about 2 weeks ago, and in my first week I lost 17 lbs! Second week is obviously not going as well so far, but that’s to be expected. I have my second weigh-in on Friday, and I’m expecting to be down another 5-6 lbs.
Whenever I have any kind of self-sabotaging thoughts, I return to your blog for inspiration. What also helps is looking at all the before/after pictures of all the success stories from this program. I want to be as successful as those people, and at this point, you couldn’t pay me enough to go back to the late-night snacking and over-eating. I’ve never been so motivated, and even though it’s only been 2 weeks, I’ve never seen the kind of results I’m seeing from 30/10. The food is good, and if you drink enough water, you never feel hungry!
Thanks again for the motivation! Keep us updated on your progress. I’ll do the same!

  28. I know that I will not have a great support system at home for this. And there is no way I will be able to empty my house of the foods we’re not supposed to eat so I’m wondering, is the support of the 30/10 staff possibly enough to carry someone through to meet their goals? Or am I doomed from the get go?

    Like

    1. That is an answer only you can give yourself. I would make a consultation and have an honest conversation with the person you meet with. They really don’t want people doing it if there is a chance you can’t commit 100%. Everyone’s situation is different as well of the level of support. But any weight loss journey will require the same thing from you- to stick to it no matter what the circumstances. Support is great to have and you will need to create your own network outside of your house. If it was me I would be getting to the bottom of why I would not have support in my own house! I digress…I am here to support you! And whatever program you choose is going to require support and empathy and will power. I have been able to rely on my 30/10 peeps heavily. I have also been able to rely on my husband and parents and sister and all my peeps and it has been awesome. There are still days where I feel so alone it’s scary. But that is the journey. 30/10’s words and encouragement and time and recipe ideas will only take you so far. And really- you are doomed NOW in a cycle and relationship with food if you are thinking about 30/10. You can keep yourself doomed by finding reason to not change or you can get yourself undoomed by making some changes 🙂 You can do ANYTHING. You will learn A LOT about yourself no matter what your decision is. Your are thinking about change and that is positive 🙂 It will be painful but you CAN do it. Make an appointment and see what they say.

  29. Do you have to buy their food? I love to cook and can stick to a plan for the duration of a day, but my problem is late evenings, when I go to school, and my wine and snack in the evenings. I have about 50lbs to lose. I’m pretty sure I could stick to preparing my own food, just need someone to tell me exactly what to eat, what portions and how to combine the foods so that they are working in my favor.

        1. It is a BIG cost that is for sure. When I added up what I/we were spending on food and going out and booze and Starbucks it was MORE than 30/10. We also itemize our taxes and meet the threshold to do so this year so we were able to deduct part of the 30/10 cost. It might be worth a call to your tax person or HR Block to see if you could itemize. I had tried everything else and was ready for a change. Your consult will help you answer many of your questions.

I have not found it hard to maintain- I have kept in the same few pounds when “paused”. I have never been on maintainence but my husband has. He does the same thing…goes up a few then back down a few. I don’t anticipate it being difficult but then again I am not there. My body just craves salad and veggies now so it’s easier to make meals at home that are on plan.

  32. Thank you for the information April, it was a huge help! Just had my first week weigh in, lost 11.2 lbs.. I admit I cheated twice the first week, two martinis and the night before my weigh in I ate a 16 oz steak (the whole thing)! Probably not recommended. Before I started the program I was drinking about 40 oz of diet coke a day (honestly twice that much), and at least that much crystal lite – I quit both cold turkey when I committed to 30 10. I’ve found that when I get a hunger ping, or a diet coke craving, I drink one of the beverages provided by 30 10 and I am good to go.. more than anything that has helped me. I’ve also found a new friend in sparkling water – who knew? The other note I will make is that I notice I get hungry when I am not active, my mind wanders toward eating. When I am active, i.e. walking, busy at work, etc I really don’t notice. My advice to newbies is to schedule your meals, snacks on your phone calendar, then plan some activities and stay busy! I’ll check back in, but hope this helps someone thinking about making the same commitment to their own health!

  33. April- thank you for this Blog. When I was considering doing 30/10 I read your blog and it was the deciding factor. All the negative reviews were mostly about cost. I started at 235 and today weighed myself at 208. Of course every week they ask me if I exercised and I have been saying no. This past week I started exercising. Oh no! What is happening. I have more weight to go, likely will be on the program a total of 10 weeks, but I am confident that I will keep this weight off! Some may complain about the cost, but I challenge you to life up a 30 bag of cat food and really deal with if you are reading this blog you are probably carrying at least that much extra around ALL the time. And you and I just get used to it. When it is gone it is AMAZING how fantastic I feel. I am never really hungry. Is it worth the money? Yes! And just buying the food is not the same as doing the program-there are veggie and salad requirements and cooking on your own…but you know that!!! This is a good question! I guess if you stuck to the 30/10 guidelines and only ate the food that they use then maybe you could do it on your own? For me the weekly check in and support was what I needed. That also have cooking classes that really helped me get out of a food rut!

Is there any truth that if you do not reach your “ideal” weight within the time frame the program continues at an ongoing cost? I have seen reviews that claim if you do not continue at the point and reach that “ideal” number you are not eligible for the lifetime coaching. I hope that is just Internet negativity. that would be a sin if someone looking to lose 75lbs felt comfortable and healthy at 65lbs only to hear that they were not eligible. This to me is the problem with this blind marketing approach. It leaves us scouring the Internet for answers which all know is not the best practice. That is not directed at you APRIL your blog has been incredibly helpful! Just frustration in seeking some truths

    1. Its called Doctors Choice- link at the bottom. They do not use all of their food options and I think it is because some of it falls outside of 30/10 guidelines. And 30/10 costs are a bit more than buying it on your own. The real cost of 30/10 is the support and the people…that is what you are paying for. And the program and guidance and set up and follow through…access to their cooking classes and recipes. I understand the cost upfront seems outragous. But for me I had tried everything and spent double what I have paid to lose my weight for good on fads ands books and other diet programs. It just made sense for me and I am happy with my decision. As far as their support I don’s have an answer for that. My husband never reached the weight 30/10 set but he still goes in weekly or every other week to meet with them, get his numbers, and talk about the issues he is having. I will see them NEXT Thursday and will ask your question and get an answer from them!

In the end I had tried everything…it was 30/10 or surgery and that was not something I wanted to do.

      1. Haha yes! Seinfeld is awesome. If you decide to do facebook you’ll have to let us know! I would definitely be in.
I was wondering if you, or anyone here has young kids? That was another one of my hang ups, I know them rating healthy is great too, but I dont want them to feel restricted for 6 months? (If that makes sense?) I hope the cost of it all balances out, we are a costco once a month family, so we don’t spend a ton on food, I just have to decide I need to feel happy in life, and be healthy! To live is a worthwhile investment~ thanks again, glad I found this!

  41. YES – Facebook page! Do it! While the 30/10 staff are super supportive, I think it would be nice to have a place where we can go to support each other, share recipes, and to keep me on track when I finish the program (about a week left – woo!) . Keep us posted! I’d be happy to help 🙂

    1. My concern would be finding the time to monitor the group…sometimes peoples comments can get out of hand ! But yes having a closed, secure, and private group might be a great place for us 30/10ers to meet, greet, and share!

  42. Do they offer a payment plan? Considering I live paycheck to paycheck I dont think i will be able to afford that much of a cost up front

    1. I *think* you can pay it in two chunks. My mom was able to pay week to week but that was after she had done her first set of weeks and she had a little bit more to lose. That would be a great question to ask at a consultation. I have always paid for my weeks upfront in full so I am not much help here.

  43. Well, I was a bit skeptical about 3010 until I saw 4 or 5 of my friends lose the weight and sing their praises! I joined March 15th of this year and was told in the beginning that I had to lose 35 pounds. I am 69 years old and had high cholesterol, signs of pre-diabetes, high blood pressure and an overall feeling of guilt that I let my body go from slim and buff 30 years ago to looking in the mirror in the morning and seeing a fat, red faced old man who looked like he was ready for a major medical problem! It is now 2 months (8weeks) later and I have lost 31 pounds of the 35 and the remaining 4 pounds will be gone in 2 weeks! I then begin my maintenance (phase 2). 3010 cost me a bit over $2000.00, but I just went to my first (6 months old) granddaughters baptism/ christening and wore my expensive suit that I bought 20 years ago and it fit perfect! I think about the cost of the program and then think of the times I went to Reno or Vegas when I was young and threw away twice that amount and ended up in jail and with a hangover to boot!.. $2000.00?… Yah, it’s worth it to me!… Really worth it!………..Thanx for listenin’!,………..Pat in Renton,WA

  44. Thank You for your blog….I read it before joining 6 weeks ago. The money was tough, I pd. $2550 for 10 weeks, they recommended 13 weeks to get to my numbers. I will pay $255 a week after week 10 to hopefully be on maintenance. My husband started dieting on his own with me, ate foods equivalent in nutrition value close to my products, & we ate the same dinner. So far, in 6 1/2 weeks he has lost 24 lbs., (he’s a iron worker) I have lost much slower….14 lbs. I am very pleased with the program, tried several others, I love being able to just eat their products & not thinking about what to cook. I don’t like having to eAt 4 cups of veggies as I’m not a vegetable lover. As lettuce doesn’t count towards my diet, I live on spinach, celery, cukes & cabbage. The hardest part is cooking meals for my 4 kids…Mac & cheese makes my mouth water!! All the snacks in the house just jump out at me! But, I have managed to think about how much money I paid & avoid the temptation. To answer a question I saw on here: You do have to meet their body fat & visceral fat numbers before they will maintain you for life, even if you have reached your goal weight. They tell you this up front and half way thru make you sign a paper saying they made you aware of this twice. Nothing hidden, everything is in black & white from the get go. I have 16-20 lbs. further to go & think it will take the 13 weeks they suggested, but as long as the numbers keep going down each week, it will happen. My b-day is tomorrow & my 12yo dtr. Is making me a cake…I feel so bad not eating it, but I really am scared to get knocked out of fat burn, I am going away in 2 weeks for my sons graduation from boot camp, I hope to be down 20 lbs. by then. My son will be shocked when he sees my husband & I. I think it’s a great program if you are serious about losing the weight & the high price motivates you to stick to it.
